Chinese netizens are picking on White liberals in America, giving them a new nickname: #Baizuo. And, Californians are starting to pick up on it.
Mainland Chinese term Baizuo (白左: literally meaning “White Left”) has been coined to refer to liberal-leaning Westerners’ political correctness and their hypocritical behavior.
Urban Dictionary defined Baizuos “covertly advance their own material or emotional interests at the expense of others, while claiming otherwise from a self-assumed superior moral position.”
The Tweet blames state elected officials for California’s increasing homeless population and claims it as a reason to push the recall election of Gov. Gavin Newsom, calling him “Baizuo.”
Some consider Baizuos’ emphasis on American “whiteness” after the rise of BLM movement explains the rejection of prop 16 in 2020, which would have restored affirmative action at public universities in California.
The Tweet by @GBaizuo calls UC system Baizuo as the schools reluctantly made SAT and ACT scores optional for admissions and scholarships after reaching a settlement agreement with students.
The standardized tests are considered to put students of color and those with disabilities at a disadvantage, while favoring the privileged, non-disabled students.
